You can apply this same system for playing the piano by ear. Guitar players learn several rhythmic patterns to use for the chords. It can be strumming or finger picking patterns. On the piano you just need to learn a few similar rhythmic patterns and learn the notes of chords. A chord is generally made of the first, third and fifth notes. It's helpful to know what chords are sharped and flatted for each key. For example, the chord A is made up of the notes A, C# and E. In the key of A, the C is sharp.
